Brinell hardness tester selection
HB, HBS, and HBW have different meanings:
- The meaning of HB: press a hardened steel ball of a certain size (usually 10mm in diameter) into the surface of the material with a certain load (usually 3000kg) and keep it for a period of time. After the load is removed, the ratio of the load to its indentation area is is the Brinell hardness value (HB)
- The meaning of HBS: HBS means that the indenter is a hardened steel ball.
- The meaning of HBW: HBW means that the indenter is cemented carbide.
HB, HBS, and HBW have different properties:
- Properties of HB: Generally, the higher the hardness, the better the wear resistance.
- Properties of HBS: HBS is not suitable for measuring materials with higher hardness.
- Properties of HBW: Calculate the hardness value based on the load on the unit surface area of the indentation.
HB, HBS, and HBW have different uses:
- Purpose of HB: Used for materials with high hardness (such as cemented carbide, etc.).
- Usage of HBS: used to measure materials with Brinell hardness value below 450, such as mild steel, gray cast iron and non-ferrous metals.
- Purpose of HBW: used to measure materials with Brinell hardness value below 650.
